Choosing a good roofer for your home
Your home is your castle and its strong guard is the roof. If your roof is in disrepair then eventually it will lead to the downfall of your home if you leave it. Even a few loose or a missing tile on your roof can lead to enormous damage. This damage will often first be evident in the loft of your home and could be seen as stains on the ceiling and walls. Do nothing about it and your home could become damaged by damp and mould which could lead to very costly repairs. Not only can the shell of your home become damaged but damp could also invade your belongings and these could have to be replaced. Therefore at the first signs of missing or damaged shingles and tiles you need to contact a qualified roofer.
However when you begin your search you will find that there are many roofing contractors out there. Who do you know to choose? Where do you begin looking? You will want a contractor who can tackle the job at hand and ensure you of quality workmanship.
One of the easiest ways of finding a good contractor is to check if they are registered with the largest roofing trade associations in the UK and this is the National Federation of Roofing Contractors otherwise known as the NFRC. Someone in this organization would have strict health and safety rules and would be fully insured. If you were to choose a roofing contractor out of the local free paper without doing a bit research, then you could let yourself in for a great deal of heartache and pay out good money for shoddy workmanship.
Another way of finding a good roofer is to ask around. Look at your friends, neighbours and families roofs and ask them who they use. A good contractor would pride themselves on their work and not be afraid of showing you work that they have previously completed and projects they have undertaken. Any who shy away from referrals should be given a wide berth?
Once you have found a contractor do not be afraid to ask questions. Ask them what types of experience they have and what materials they work with. The roof will only be as good as the materials that are used for the job. Poor quality materials will not last and you can pay out a great deal of money for inferior materials that would not last. All quality craftsmen will provide a warranty for the materials they use and the work they provide. Ask your roofer what they provide. Also ask them how long they have been in business – not many companies survive so if yours has been long established then you know that you have found someone you can trust with your roof and your home. Choosing a quality craftsman can save a great deal of money and time and it is well worth spending the time searching for the right company.
